Getting to the conference

by Air

The nearest major airport is Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW) Airport, located about 21 miles East of the Renaissance Center.  Taxis and towncars are the recommended mode of transportation from the airport to Downtown Detroit where the conference will be held.  A taxi fare from the airport to the Renaissance Center will cost about $45.  You can use the bulletin board to find others to share a taxi.  Public transit is another option, however the bus ride takes about 1.5 hours.

Taxi/Towncar Service to & from the Airport:

  • Metro Cab (734) 997-6500 – $45 per cab, no reservation necessary for rides from the airport.
  • Detroit Airport Shuttle and Taxi (313) 759-7741 – $45 for 1 person – add $2 for each additional passenger. Call ahead for reservation – driver will meet you in baggage claim.
  • Metro Airport Taxi (800) 745-5191  $43.  Call ahead for reservation – driver will meet you in baggage claim.
  • Airport Taxi/Shuttle Detroit 866-DTW-TAXI (389-8294) – $65 for a taxi or towncar. Call ahead for a reservation – driver will meet you in baggage claim.

Public Transit from DTW:

SmartBus Line 125 Ford St-Eureka Rd goes directly from the airport to the Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. The trip takes about 1.5 hours. Regular fare is $2.00; Youth fare (ages 6-18) is $1.00; Fare for those 65+ and the disabled is $0.50.

Directions: Board SmartBus Line 125 Ford St-Eureka Rd at the outer roadway (lower level) near the Ground Transportation offices at the North Terminal of the airport.  Exit bus at the Larned & Brush stop in downtown Detroit.  Walk 1 block West on E Larned Street, then turn Left onto Randolph Street; walk 1 block South to the Renaissance Center. by Other Modes of Transportation

The Detroit Amtrak station is 3.5 miles from the Renaissance Center.  The Greyhound bus station is just 1 mile away.

Transportation Around Town

Car

As the home of the American auto industry, Detroit is very automobile-centric.  We will provide transportation to any off-site conference events, however if you want to see any other parts of town, it can be difficult to get to many places in the city without a car.

Parking near the Renaissance Center

  • Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center offers valet parking for $25/day with in & out privileges.
  • Hotel guests can park at a discounted rate at Baubien Place. $8/day Monday-Friday, $4/day Weekends.  No in-and-out privileges.  Map
  • Miller Parking, 400 Renaissance Center, open 24 hours/day.  $5 for up to 2 hours, $15 for 2-10 hours, $20 for 10-24 hours.
  • Ford Underground Garage, 30 E. Jefferson Ave, open Monday – Friday 6am- 11pm, Saturday – Sunday 7am – 7pm. $5 for first hour, $10 daily maximum.

People Mover

The People Mover is an elevated light rail system that circles the Downtown area and stops right at the Renaissance Center.  Fare is $0.50.  The People Mover is in operation during the following hours:

Monday-Thursday:
6:30 am to 12:00 am
Friday:
6:30 am to 2:00 am
Saturday:
9:00 am to 2:00 am
Sunday:
12:00 pm to 12:00 am

Bicycle

Detroit’s low density and wide streets are great for cycling. You can rent a bike for just a few hours or the duration of your stay at Wheelhouse Detroit, located 3 blocks East of the Marriott. The Marriott allows guests to bring bikes into their rooms. Bicycle trails in Detroit are listed on the Michigan Trails & Greenways website.

Public Transportation

The Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) buses provide transportation within the city, however the system has suffered major budget cutbacks and service can be limited. Fare is $1.50, transfers are $0.50.
